A Leak at a Medical Records Giant and Millions in AI Funding for Cardiology – This Week's Roundup
This week in the medical industry offers a lesson in two faces of healthcare digitization: on one hand, the sheer scale of risk carried by electronic patient records, and on the other, investors' growing appetite for artificial intelligence in diagnostics and clinic management. We take a look at what moved the medtech market between September 7 and 16, 2026, starting with news that should worry every facility using electronic medical records.
01 · Cybersecurity
MyDr System Leak Hits 19 Million Patients – Poland's Data Protection Authority Announces Inspections [1]
A cyberattack on MyDr, a provider of medical records software used by roughly 12,000 healthcare providers across Poland, resulted in a data leak affecting as many as 19 million patients. The attackers got hold of not only personal data but also information on prescribed medications and issued prescriptions – particularly sensitive data whose exposure could have serious consequences for patients. In response, the President of UODO (Poland's Personal Data Protection Office) announced that additional data-security inspections at outpatient clinics will begin before the end of the year. For medical facilities and IT system providers, this is a clear signal that cybersecurity audits and GDPR compliance are no longer a formality but a genuine investment priority – and a topic that is sure to come up in discussions about equipping facilities with modern yet secure systems.
02 · AI Diagnostics
Elucid Raises $55M for AI-Powered Cardiac Imaging Diagnostics [2]
After the unsettling news from the world of cybersecurity, it's worth looking at the other side of medicine's digitization – where investors are putting big money behind AI tools that support physicians. US-based Elucid has raised $55 million in a Series D round, bringing the company's total funding to around $185 million. The funds will go toward commercializing a platform that turns coronary CT angiography images into three-dimensional models assessing plaque in the coronary arteries. The company is also seeking FDA approval for an FFR-CT indication – combining anatomy, plaque biology, and vessel physiology to non-invasively assess blockages. This is further proof that the market sees AI as a genuine alternative to invasive cardiac testing, and that investors are willing to back that vision with substantial sums.
03 · E-Health
Tandem Health Raises $100M for a European Clinical AI Assistant [3]
Similar investor enthusiasm can be seen on the other side of the Atlantic, where big money is flowing not into a single diagnostic tool but into a comprehensive platform for entire clinics. Stockholm-based Tandem Health closed a $100 million Series B round, led by the EU's Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT. The funding will go toward developing what amounts to an AI-powered "operating system" for clinics – covering everything from automated visit documentation and coding to clinical decision support. The platform is already used by around 10,000 facilities across 14 European countries, and three of its products recently received Class IIa certification under the EU's MDR regulation. This shows that Europe's e-health market is maturing – clients and regulators now expect not standalone AI tools, but comprehensive, certified systems that can be safely deployed at scale.
Summary
Summary
This week shows that healthcare digitization is accelerating on two fronts at once – the volume of medical data requiring protection keeps growing, but so does the scale of investment in AI meant to improve diagnostics and clinic operations. Data security, AI-assisted imaging, and certified systems for medical facilities are all topics that will certainly find their place at Warsaw Medical Expo 2026 – the International Medical Fair. Stay tuned for the next installment of our roundup, and be sure to visit the expo to see these technologies in action.
